By exploiting the highly parallel nature of the problem and making efficient use of the available hardware, our simulator exhibits a significant speedup over its CPU-based analog. We apply our framework to a specific experimental simulation: the computation of trapping probabilities associated with micron-sized silica beads in optical trapping workbenches. When evaluating large numbers of trajectories (4096), we see approximately a 356 times speedup of the GPU-based simulator over its CPU-based counterpart.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1115\/1.4005718","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2012,5,22]],"date-time":"2012-05-22T19:29:02Z","timestamp":1337714942000},"update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1115\/crossmarkpolicy-asme","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":4,"title":["Speeding Up Particle Trajectory Simulations Under Moving Force Fields using Graphic Processing Units"],"prefix":"10.1115","volume":"12","author":[{"given":"Robert","family":"Patro","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Science, Institute for Advanced Computer Studies, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"John P.","family":"Dickerson","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Institute for Advanced Computer Studies, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Sujal","family":"Bista","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Science, Institute for Advanced Computer Studies, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Satyandra K.","family":"Gupta","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Fellow ASME"},{"name":"Department of Mechanical Engineering, Institute for Systems Research, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Amitabh","family":"Varshney","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Science Institute for Advanced Computer Studies University of Maryland College Park, MA 20742"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"33","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2012,5,22]]},"reference":[{"issue":"1","key":"2019100513221689800_c1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","first-page":"25","DOI":"10.1186\/1752-0509-4-25","article-title":"Brownian Ddiffusion of AMPA Receptors is Sufficient to Explain Fast Onset of LTP","volume":"4","author":"Tolle","journal-title":"BMC Syst.
