{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2025,7,2]],"date-time":"2025-07-02T16:56:09Z","timestamp":1751475369930},"reference-count":30,"publisher":"Human Kinetics","issue":"2","content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":[],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2015,3]]},"abstract":"<jats:sec sec-type=\"background\"><jats:title>Background:<\/jats:title><jats:p>The assessment of energetic and mechanical parameters in swimming often requires the use of an intermittent incremental protocol, whose step lengths are corner stones for the efficiency of the evaluation procedures.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec sec-type=\"purpose\"><jats:title>Purpose:<\/jats:title><jats:p>To analyze changes in swimming kinematics and interlimb coordination behavior in 3 variants, with different step lengths, of an intermittent incremental protocol.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec sec-type=\"methods\"><jats:title>Methods:<\/jats:title><jats:p>Twenty-two male swimmers performed n \u00d7 <jats:italic>d<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>i<\/jats:sub> variants of an intermittent and incremental protocol (n \u2264 7; <jats:italic>d<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>1<\/jats:sub> = 200 m, <jats:italic>d<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> = 300 m, and <jats:italic>d<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> = 400 m). Swimmers were videotaped in the sagittal plane for 2-dimensional kinematical analysis using a dualmedia setup. Video images were digitized with a motion-capture system. Parameters that were assessed included the stroke kinematics, the segmental and anatomical landmark kinematics, and interlimb coordination. Movement efficiency was also estimated.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec sec-type=\"results\"><jats:title>Results:<\/jats:title><jats:p>There were no significant variations in any of the selected variables according to the step lengths. A high to very high relationship was observed between step lengths.
