{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,1,20]],"date-time":"2026-01-20T09:42:18Z","timestamp":1768902138565,"version":"3.49.0"},"reference-count":0,"publisher":"Human Kinetics","issue":"2","content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":[],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2017,2]]},"abstract":"<jats:sec sec-type=\"purpose\"><jats:title><jats:italic>Purpose:<\/jats:italic><\/jats:title><jats:p>To develop a performance predictor model based on swimmers\u2019 biomechanical profile, relate the partial contribution of the main predictors with the training program, and analyze the time effect, sex effect, and time \u00d7 sex interaction.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec sec-type=\"methods\"><jats:title><jats:italic>Methods:<\/jats:italic><\/jats:title><jats:p>91 swimmers (44 boys, 12.04 \u00b1 0.81 y; 47 girls, 11.22 \u00b1 0.98 y) evaluated during a 3-y period. The decimal age and anthropometric, kinematic, and efficiency features were collected 10 different times over 3 seasons (ie, longitudinal research). Hierarchical linear modeling was the procedure used to estimate the performance predictors.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec sec-type=\"results\"><jats:title><jats:italic>Results:<\/jats:italic><\/jats:title><jats:p>Performance improved between season 1 early and season 3 late for both sexes (boys 26.9% [20.88;32.96], girls 16.1% [10.34;22.54]). Decimal age (estimate [EST] \u20132.05, <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic> &lt; .001), arm span (EST \u20130.59, <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic> &lt; .001), stroke length (EST 3.82; <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic> = .002), and propelling efficiency (EST \u20130.17, <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic> = .001) were entered in the final model.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec sec-type=\"conclusion\"><jats:title><jats:italic>Conclusion:<\/jats:italic><\/jats:title><jats:p>Over 3 consecutive seasons young swimmers\u2019 performance improved. Performance is a multifactorial phenomenon where anthropometrics, kinematics, and efficiency were the main determinants.
