{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,3,1]],"date-time":"2026-03-01T17:47:11Z","timestamp":1772387231819,"version":"3.50.1"},"reference-count":102,"publisher":"Human Kinetics","issue":"2","content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":[],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2019,8,1]]},"abstract":"<jats:p><jats:bold><jats:italic>Introduction<\/jats:italic>:<\/jats:bold>Adequate gross motor coordination is essential for children participating in age-related physical activities and has an important role in maintaining sufficient physical activity levels during the life course.<jats:bold><jats:italic>Aim<\/jats:italic>:<\/jats:bold>To examine the association between moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and gross motor coordination during sedentary behavior in early childhood (ages 3\u20136\u00a0y).<jats:bold><jats:italic>Methods<\/jats:italic>:<\/jats:bold>The sample comprised 209 children aged 3\u20136\u00a0y. Gross motor coordination was assessed according to the Movement Assessment Battery for Children (MABC-2). The battery to assess gross motor coordination comprised the aiming and catching, and balance components. MVPA was measured by accelerometry worn for 7 consecutive days (Monday to Sunday).<jats:bold><jats:italic>Results<\/jats:italic>:<\/jats:bold>Our data indicated that 31.5% of the sample had low, 32.5% medium, and 36.0% high gross motor coordination. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that MVPA was positively associated with gross motor coordination, adjusted for gender and sedentary behavior.<jats:bold><jats:italic>Conclusions<\/jats:italic>:<\/jats:bold>Preschoolers with high gross motor coordination spend more time in MVPA.
