{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,4,13]],"date-time":"2026-04-13T08:25:09Z","timestamp":1776068709026,"version":"3.50.1"},"reference-count":20,"publisher":"American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)","issue":"5543","content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":["Science"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2001,10,26]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>\n                    The\n                    <jats:italic>lin-4<\/jats:italic>\n                    and\n                    <jats:italic>let-7<\/jats:italic>\n                    antisense RNAs are temporal regulators that control the timing of developmental events in\n                    <jats:italic>Caenorhabditis elegans<\/jats:italic>\n                    by inhibiting translation of target mRNAs.\n                    <jats:italic>let-7<\/jats:italic>\n                    RNA is conserved among bilaterian animals, suggesting that this class of small RNAs [microRNAs (miRNAs)] is evolutionarily ancient. Using bioinformatics and cDNA cloning, we found 15 new miRNA genes in\n                    <jats:italic>C. elegans.<\/jats:italic>\n                    Several of these genes express small transcripts that vary in abundance during\n                    <jats:italic>C. elegans<\/jats:italic>\n                    larval development, and three of them have apparent homologs in mammals and\/or insects.
