However, polysome patterns obtained from 15-day-old hypophysectomized embryos differed markedly from those of their controls. In addition, a tetrad-shaped polysome, characteristic of the 158\n S<\/jats:italic>\n peak of the 12-day-old embryo but not of the 15-day-old control, is still retained in the operated embryo at 15 days. Therefore, it appears that after day 12 of embryogenesis the structure of the four-ribosome polysome from skin and feathers is contingent on a functional hypophysis.\n <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1126\/science.151.3713.1001","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2006,10,5]],"date-time":"2006-10-05T10:47:55Z","timestamp":1160045275000},"page":"1001-1003","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":8,"title":["Polysome Morphology: Evidence for Endocrine Control during Chick Embryogenesis"],"prefix":"10.1126","volume":"151","author":[{"given":"Milton B.","family":"Yatvin","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Radiology, Radiobiology Research Laboratories, University of Wisconsin Medical School, Madison"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"221","reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1126\/science.148.3678.1739"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_2_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"271","DOI":"10.1002\/jez.1400850206","volume":"85","year":"1940","unstructured":"FUGO, N.W., Effects of hypophysectomy in the chick embryo, JOURNAL OF EXPERIMENTAL ZOOLOGY 85: 271 (1940).","journal-title":"JOURNAL OF EXPERIMENTAL ZOOLOGY"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_3_1","first-page":"73","volume":"8","year":"1938","unstructured":"FUGO, N.W., LATVIJAS BIOLOGIJAS BIEDRIBAS RAKSTI 8: 73 (1938).","journal-title":"LATVIJAS BIOLOGIJAS BIEDRIBAS RAKSTI"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_4_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"618","DOI":"10.1016\/0006-291X(64)90404-8","volume":"17","year":"1964","unstructured":"HUMPHREYS, T, APPEARANCE OF STABLE POLYSOMES DURING DEVELOPMENT OF CHICK DOWN FEATHERS, BIOCHEMICAL AND BIOPHYSICAL RESEARCH COMMUNICATIONS 17: 618 (1964).","journal-title":"BIOCHEMICAL AND BIOPHYSICAL RESEARCH COMMUNICATIONS"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_5_1","unstructured":"Mitskevich M.
