Commun."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2007]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>3-Hydrazonocamphor, 3-(RR<jats:sup>1<\/jats:sup>NN)C<jats:sub>10<\/jats:sub>H<jats:sub>14<\/jats:sub>O (R = Me, R<jats:sup>1<\/jats:sup> = H), undergoes intramolecular hydrogen bridging by coordination to platinum or palladium. This effect is evidenced by considerable decrease in the \u03bd(C=O) frequency (compared to the free ligand) in the IR spectra of the complexes [MCl<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>L<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>] (M = Pd, Pt; L = 3-(RR<jats:sup>1<\/jats:sup>NN)C<jats:sub>10<\/jats:sub>H<jats:sub>14<\/jats:sub>O) as well as by the magnetic non- equivalence of the two ligands, as revealed by <jats:sup>13<\/jats:sup>C NMR. DFT calculations indicate that coordination of 3-(Me(H)NN)C<jats:sub>10<\/jats:sub>H<jats:sub>14<\/jats:sub>O promotes <jats:italic>E\/Z<\/jats:italic> isomerization of the hydrazono group of the ligand, inducing formation of intramolecular hydrogen bonding and corresponding stabilization of the complex. Characterization of the complexes [MCl<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>L<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>] (M = Pt; L: R, R<jats:sup>1<\/jats:sup> = Me (<jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold>), R = Me, R<jats:sup>1<\/jats:sup> = H (<jats:bold>2<\/jats:bold>) and M = Pd; L: R = Me, R<jats:sup>1<\/jats:sup> = H (<jats:bold>3<\/jats:bold>)) was performed by analytical and spectroscopic techniques. Redox properties of the 3-hydazonocamphors and their complexes were studied by cyclic voltammetry. The structure of <jats:italic>trans<\/jats:italic>-[PtCl<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>{3-(Me<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>NN)C<jats:sub>10<\/jats:sub>H<jats:sub>14<\/jats:sub>O}<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>] was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.
