The deficiency state was associated with a severe sinobronchial syndrome. Treatment with L-thyroxine resulted in a normal IgA concentration and a dramatic clinical improvement. Of the various possible underlying mechanisms, impaired synthesis of IgA light and heavy light chains seemed most probable.
