Imaging Sci."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2011,1]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>Two fully discrete finite element\u2013based algorithms to approximate the $L^2$ gradient flow of the Mumford\u2013Shah\u2013Euler functional for unit vector fields are proposed, analyzed, and compared. The first scheme uses a penalization strategy, and the second a Lagrange multiplier, to approximate and enforce the sphere constraint, respectively.
