The solution in the joint limit $r \\uparrow 1$ and $\\tau \\downarrow 0$, where r is the coefficient of restitution for the impact at the bell and $\\tau$ is a measure of the hysteretic work, tends to a member of the one-parameter family of solutions of a model for which $1- r = \\tau = 0$. Explicit results are obtained for the period and impact velocity as functions of $(1 - r^2 )\/ \\tau $.
