A"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2020,10]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title><jats:p>We present high-statistic data on charged-pion emission from Au\u00a0+\u00a0Au collisions at <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$\\sqrt{s_{\\mathrm{NN}}} = 2.4~\\hbox {GeV}$$<\/jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/1998\/Math\/MathML\">\n<mml:mrow>\n<mml:msqrt>\n<mml:msub>\n<mml:mi>s<\/mml:mi>\n<mml:mi>NN<\/mml:mi>\n<\/mml:msub>\n<\/mml:msqrt>\n<mml:mo>=<\/mml:mo>\n<mml:mn>2.4<\/mml:mn>\n<mml:mspace\/>\n<mml:mtext>GeV<\/mml:mtext>\n<\/mml:mrow>\n<\/mml:math><\/jats:alternatives><\/jats:inline-formula> (corresponding to <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$E_{beam} = 1.23~\\hbox {A GeV}$$<\/jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/1998\/Math\/MathML\">\n<mml:mrow>\n<mml:msub>\n<mml:mi>E<\/mml:mi>\n<mml:mrow>\n<mml:mi>beam<\/mml:mi>\n<\/mml:mrow>\n<\/mml:msub>\n<mml:mo>=<\/mml:mo>\n<mml:mn>1.23<\/mml:mn>\n<mml:mspace\/>\n<mml:mtext>A GeV<\/mml:mtext>\n<\/mml:mrow>\n<\/mml:math><\/jats:alternatives><\/jats:inline-formula>) in four centrality classes in the range 0\u201340% of the most central collisions. The data are analyzed as a function of transverse momentum, transverse mass, rapidity, and polar angle. Pion multiplicity per participating nucleon decreases moderately with increasing centrality. The polar angular distributions are found to be non-isotropic even for the most central event class. Our results on pion multiplicity fit well into the general trend of the available world data, but undershoot by <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$2.5~\\sigma $$<\/jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/1998\/Math\/MathML\">\n<mml:mrow>\n<mml:mn>2.5<\/mml:mn>\n<mml:mspace\/>\n<mml:mi>\u03c3<\/mml:mi>\n<\/mml:mrow>\n<\/mml:math><\/jats:alternatives><\/jats:inline-formula> data from the FOPI experiment measured at slightly lower beam energy.
