To study the role of image processing techniques in physical education teaching, with the help of action recognition and gesture estimation algorithms, image processing technology, real-time image acquisition and processing system of moving objects, and to undertake the practical application of this technology, the operation effect was analyzed. The specific conclusion is as follows: based on the proposed algorithm design to realize a real-time acquisition of motion target image system, experiments were tested on the detection, tracking, localization algorithms described in this paper, and the effectiveness of the algorithm was proved through the analysis of the experimental data. Sports video image processing technology was applied to the back type high jump teaching. The motor skill assessment performance of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group, suggesting that the teaching quality of the experimental group was significantly higher than the control group. It proves the feasibility and effectiveness of applying the motion video image processing technology to the back type high jump teaching. The average skill score of the students in the experimental group was [Formula: see text] and the mean skill score of the students in the control group was [Formula: see text]. The average skill score of the experimental group was better than that of the control group. It shows that there is a very significant difference in the performance of skills in the two groups after the experiment, Sports video image processing technology, as an emerging teaching tool, can stimulate students\u2019 interest in learning and fully mobilize students\u2019 initiative in learning.
