Differing from the conventional matrix decomposition methods such as the singular value decomposition (SVD), the OD of a 2-D magnitude specification matrix results in 1-D magnitude specifications which are always non-negative while the root mean-squared (rms) error in decomposition is minimum. Therefore, the OD is more suitable for designing 2-D digital filters (2DDFs) through designing one-dimensional digital filters (1DDFs) than the conventional matrix decomposition methods. <\/jats:p><jats:p> Based on the OD, the problem of designing a recursive 2DDF can be reduced to one of designing a pair of 1DDFs, one 1-input\/multi-output, and the other multi-input\/ 1-output. Consequently, 2DDFs can easily be obtained by designing 1DDFs using the well-established 1-D design techniques. Three design examples are presented to illustrate that this OD-based 2DDF design technique is extremely efficient. <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1142\/s0218126693000447","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2004,11,23]],"date-time":"2004-11-23T03:29:30Z","timestamp":1101180570000},"page":"733-756","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":7,"title":["DESIGN OF 2-D DIGITAL FILTERS BASED ON THE OPTIMAL DECOMPOSITION OF MAGNITUDE SPECIFICATIONS"],"prefix":"10.1142","volume":"03","author":[{"given":"T.-B.","family":"DENG","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Computation Center, The Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN), Hirosawa 2-1, Wako-shi, Saitama 351-01, Japan"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"M.","family":"KAWAMATA","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Tohoku University, Aoba, Aramaki, Sendai 980, Japan"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"T.","family":"HIGUCHI","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Tohoku University, Aoba, Aramaki, Sendai 980, Japan"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"219","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2011,11,21]]},"container-title":["Journal of Circuits, Systems and Computers"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/www.worldscientific.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.1142\/S0218126693000447","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2019,8,7]],"date-time":"2019-08-07T02:45:29Z","timestamp":1565145929000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.worldscientific.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1142\/S0218126693000447"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[1993,9]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"03","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2011,11,21]]},"published-print":{"date-parts":[[1993,9]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1142\/S0218126693000447"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1142\/s0218126693000447","relation":{},"ISSN":["0218-1266","1793-6454"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0218-1266","type":"print"},{"value":"1793-6454","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[1993,9]]}}}
