These predictions are evaluated using Outcome Based Control Limits (OBCLs) and Bi-Directional (both forward and reverse) simulation models of the software development process. The Bi-Directional models provide useful guidance to the program manager when evaluating possible corrective actions on a project that has gone outside the OBCLs. The forward model predicts the potential performance impacts of the proposed corrective actions. The reverse simulation models are new and take the desired system outcome as the starting point and represent the system as it evolves backward in time to identify the necessary starting point to achieve the desired outcome. The approach is presented using an illustrative example. <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1142\/s0218194003001445","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2003,11,11]],"date-time":"2003-11-11T04:50:42Z","timestamp":1068526242000},"page":"513-530","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":7,"title":["SUPPORTING SOFTWARE PROCESS DECISIONS USING BI-DIRECTIONAL SIMULATION"],"prefix":"10.1142","volume":"13","author":[{"given":"DAVID M.","family":"RAFFO","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Business Administration, Portland State University, Portland, Oregon, USA"}]},{"given":"SIRI-ON","family":"SETAMANIT","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"College of Engineering and Computer Science, Portland State University, Portland, Oregon, USA"}]}],"member":"219","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2011,11,21]]},"reference":[{"key":"rf1","volume-title":"Dynamic Programming: Deterministic and Stochastic Models","author":"Bertsekas D.","year":"1987"},{"key":"rf2","volume-title":"Software Engineering Economics","author":"Boehm B.
