One of the reasons is the fact that agent oriented software engineering methodologies have not integrated security concerns throughout their developing stages. The integration of security concerns during the whole range of the development stages can help in the development of more secure multiagent systems. In this paper we introduce extensions to the Tropos methodology to enable it to model security concerns throughout the whole development process. A description of the new concepts and modelling activities is given together with a discussion on how these concepts and modelling activities are integrated to the current stages of Tropos. A real life case study from the health and social care sector is used to illustrate the approach. <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1142\/s0218194007003240","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2007,5,16]],"date-time":"2007-05-16T07:31:58Z","timestamp":1179300718000},"page":"285-309","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":277,"title":["SECURE TROPOS: A SECURITY-ORIENTED EXTENSION OF THE TROPOS METHODOLOGY"],"prefix":"10.1142","volume":"17","author":[{"given":"HARALAMBOS","family":"MOURATIDIS","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Innovative Informatics, School of Computing and Technology, University of East London, UK"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"PAOLO","family":"GIORGINI","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Information and Communication Technology, University of Trento, Italy"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"219","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2011,11,21]]},"reference":[{"key":"rf1","volume-title":"Security Engineering: A Guide to Building Dependable Distributed Systems","author":"Anderson R.","year":"2001"},{"key":"rf2","author":"Andries M.","journal-title":"Science of Computer Programming"},{"key":"rf3","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1007\/3-540-44564-1_6"},{"key":"rf4","author":"Beynon-Davies P.","journal-title":"European Journal of Information Systems"},{"key":"rf5","volume-title":"Software Agents","author":"Bradshaw M.","year":"1997"},{"key":"rf7","series-title":"Lecture Notes in Computer Science","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","DOI":"10.1007\/3-540-70657-7_11","volume-title":"Agent Oriented Software Engineering II","volume":"2222","author":"Bresciani P.","year":"2002"},{"key":"rf8","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1023\/B:AGNT.0000018806.20944.ef"},{"key":"rf9","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/S0306-4379(02)00012-1"},{"key":"rf11","author":"van Lamsweerde D.
