Given as input: (1) a domain geometry and (2) a 3\u00d73 tensor field that specifies a desired anisotropic node-spacing, this new approach first packs ellipsoids closely in the domain by defining proximity-based interacting forces among the ellipsoids and finding a force-balancing configuration using dynamic simulation. The centers of the ellipsoids are then connected by anisotropic Delaunay triangulation for a complete mesh topology. Since a specified tensor field controls the directions and the lengths of the ellipsoids' principal axes, the method generates a graded anisotropic mesh whose elements conform precisely to the given tensor field.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1142\/s0218195900000243","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2003,5,7]],"date-time":"2003-05-07T04:18:55Z","timestamp":1052281135000},"page":"417-440","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":46,"title":["ANISOTROPIC TRIANGULATION OF PARAMETRIC SURFACES VIA CLOSE PACKING OF ELLIPSOIDS"],"prefix":"10.1142","volume":"10","author":[{"given":"KENJI","family":"SHIMADA","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Mechanical Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA 15213, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"ATSUSHI","family":"YAMADA","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"IBM Research, Tokyo Research Laboratory, 1623-14, Shimo-tsuruma, Yamato-shi, Kanagawa-ken 242-8502, Japan"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"TAKAYUKI","family":"ITOH","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"IBM Research, Tokyo Research Laboratory, 1623-14, Shimo-tsuruma, Yamato-shi, Kanagawa-ken 242-8502, Japan"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"219","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2012,4,30]]},"reference":[{"key":"p_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1002\/(SICI)1097-0207(19980315)41:5<915::AID-NME318>3.0.CO;2-Y"},{"key":"p_7","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1002\/nme.1620310607"},{"key":"p_12","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/S0167-8396(97)00037-X"},{"key":"p_13","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/0141-1195(87)90043-X"}],"container-title":["International Journal of Computational Geometry & Applications"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/www.worldscientific.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.1142\/S0218195900000243","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2019,8,6]],"date-time":"2019-08-06T08:19:11Z","timestamp":1565079551000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.worldscientific.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1142\/S0218195900000243"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2000,8]]},"references-count":4,"aliases":["10.1016\/s0218-1959(00)00024-3"],"journal-issue":{"issue":"04","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2012,4,30]]},"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2000,8]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1142\/S0218195900000243"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1142\/s0218195900000243","relation":{},"ISSN":["0218-1959","1793-6357"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0218-1959","type":"print"},{"value":"1793-6357","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2000,8]]}}}
