Algebra Comput."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2013,5]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>Given an arbitrary group G we construct a semigroup of idempotents (band) B<jats:sub>G<\/jats:sub>with the property that the free idempotent generated semigroup over B<jats:sub>G<\/jats:sub>has a maximal subgroup isomorphic to G. If G is finitely presented then B<jats:sub>G<\/jats:sub>is finite.
