Algebra Comput."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[1997,2]]},"abstract":"<jats:p> Let G be a residually finite group and let a<jats:sub>n<\/jats:sub>(G) denote the number of index n subgroups of G. It is shown that a<jats:sub>n<\/jats:sub>(G)\/n \u21920 if and only if G has a finite index central subgroup whose finite quotients are all cyclic.
