This paper develops an analytical tool for assessing the reliability of AI programs. Possible intrinsic faults of AI programs are identified, and modifications to existing software reliability models for conventional programs are suggested. An example illustrating the effect of intrinsic faults of AI heuristics on the program reliability in a real-time situation is given. It is shown that under certain conditions the cost-based A* planning algorithm is less reliable than the node-based A* planning algorithm. <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1142\/s0218213093000138","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2004,11,23]],"date-time":"2004-11-23T03:29:30Z","timestamp":1101180570000},"page":"235-247","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":3,"title":["ASSESSMENT OF THE RELIABILITY OF AI PROGRAMS"],"prefix":"10.1142","volume":"02","author":[{"given":"FAROKH","family":"BASTANI","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Science, University of Houston, Houston, Texas 77204\u20133475"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"ING-RAY","family":"CHEN","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer and Information Science, Weir 302, University of Mississippi, MS 38677"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"219","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2011,11,21]]},"container-title":["International Journal on Artificial Intelligence Tools"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/www.worldscientific.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.1142\/S0218213093000138","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2019,8,7]],"date-time":"2019-08-07T17:44:53Z","timestamp":1565199893000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.worldscientific.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1142\/S0218213093000138"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[1993,6]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"02","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2011,11,21]]},"published-print":{"date-parts":[[1993,6]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1142\/S0218213093000138"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1142\/s0218213093000138","relation":{},"ISSN":["0218-2130","1793-6349"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0218-2130","type":"print"},{"value":"1793-6349","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[1993,6]]}}}
