However, few studies have been conducted to verify the architecture's typical performance in a business environment. This study analyzed the network performance of high speed Ethernet and ATM when they were configured as LAN backbones. The results revealed that ATM exhibited performance superior to high speed Ethernet, but when adjustments were made for differences in line speed, the throughput was similar. In addition to analyzing empirical data about each technologies' performance, the advantages and limitations of using ATM in a business network are discussed. <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1142\/s0219622003000860","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2004,2,9]],"date-time":"2004-02-09T05:41:20Z","timestamp":1076305280000},"page":"683-692","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":3,"title":["A COMPARISON OF ASYNCHRONOUS TRANSFER MODE (ATM) AND HIGH SPEED ETHERNET: THE NETWORK DESIGN IMPLICATIONS TO A BUSINESS ORGANIZATION"],"prefix":"10.1142","volume":"02","author":[{"given":"DENNIS","family":"GUSTER","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"St. Cloud State University, BCIS Department, 720 4th Ave S., St. Cloud, Minnesota, 56301, USA"}]},{"given":"CHANGSOO","family":"SOHN","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"The Catholic University of Korea, Business Administration Department, San 43-1 Yokkok 2-Dong, Wonmi-Gu, Puchon City, 420-743, Gyuonaai-Do, Korea"}]},{"given":"PAUL","family":"SAFONOV","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"St. Cloud State University, BCIS Department, 720 4th Ave S., St. Cloud, Minnesota, 56301, USA"}]},{"given":"DAVID","family":"ROBINSON","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"St. Cloud State University, Statistics Department, 720 4th Ave S., St. Cloud, Minnesota, 56301, USA"}]}],"member":"219","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2011,11,20]]},"reference":[{"key":"rf1","volume-title":"Business Data Communications and Networking","author":"Fitzgerald J.","year":"2002"},{"key":"rf2","volume-title":"Designing ATM Switching Networks","author":"Guizani M.","year":"1999"},{"key":"rf4","volume-title":"ATM Networks: Concepts, Protocols and Applications","author":"Handel R.","year":"1994"},{"key":"rf6","first-page":"5","volume":"7","author":"Partridge C.","journal-title":"IEEE Network"}],"container-title":["International Journal of Information Technology & Decision Making"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/www.worldscientific.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.1142\/S0219622003000860","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2019,8,6]],"date-time":"2019-08-06T19:10:37Z","timestamp":1565118637000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.worldscientific.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1142\/S0219622003000860"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2003,12]]},"references-count":4,"journal-issue":{"issue":"04","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2011,11,20]]},"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2003,12]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1142\/S0219622003000860"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1142\/s0219622003000860","relation":{},"ISSN":["0219-6220","1793-6845"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0219-6220","type":"print"},{"value":"1793-6845","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2003,12]]}}}
