Semantic Computing"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2025,9]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>Acute ischemic strokes (AIS), which rank fifth in causes of death in the United States, are often linked to large vessel occlusions (LVOs). These LVO-associated strokes contribute significantly to high instances of post-stroke dependence and mortality. However, precise and prompt detection of LVOs can assist in minimizing long-term functional and psychological ramifications. Conventional methods for LVO detection involving manual analysis of computed tomography angiography (CTA) brain scans, frequently lead to treatment delays due to the unavailability of skilled radiologists. Therefore, for optimal patient outcomes, there is an urgent need for rapid identification of LVOs. In this study, we harness the capabilities of dilated convolutions to improve the spatial resolution of CTA data and introduce a method for detecting LVOs three-dimensional deep residual dilated convolutional neural network (DRDCNet-3D) for LVO detection. By utilizing the IACTA-EST dataset, our model has demonstrated remarkable performance, boasting a state-of-the-art Area Under the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve (AUC-ROC) of 0.91 and F1-score of 0.90. This significant enhancement not only underscores the model\u2019s efficacy but also demonstrates the utility of dilated convolutions for enhanced efficiency and detection.
