Semantic Computing"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2025,9]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>Every year, the incidence of falls among the elderly increases, leading to insufficient medical care and support that often results in fatalities and serious injuries. Consequently, elderly individuals or those with special needs require constant supervision. The expense associated with hiring a caregiver or admitting an elderly or disabled person into a nursing home is exceedingly high. At present, there are only two applications for commercial robots: healthcare assistance and human following, as well as fall detection, each functioning independently. To mitigate the chances of a fall and to alert guardians when a fall occurs, this study proposes and develops a robot that integrates both functions through an innovative algorithm. Additionally, it serves as a companion, reminding users to take their medications, reach out to their guardians, and provide companionship. The proposed robot effectively detects falls of the three primary types: slip, trip and faint, achieving an overall accuracy exceeding 86.21%, and follows individuals with an accuracy rate surpassing 85.91%. Moreover, it exceeds current leading technologies, which have a maximum accuracy of 80%.
