By examining the adaptive behavior, memory mechanisms, and emergent qualities of these Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems, I challenge traditional notions of consciousness and propose a new framework for understanding their potential for awareness. The paper delves into concepts such as proto-subjectiveness, proto-intentionality, and the role of dur\u00e9e in shaping LLM interactions. Through a rigorous analysis of counterarguments and refutations, I provide a nuanced understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with the development of proto-conscious AI.
