B"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2003,11,10]]},"abstract":"<jats:p> We derive the equation of state (EOS) of nuclear matter within a generalised Nambu\u2013Jona\u2013Lasinio (NJL) model which saturates at normal nuclear density, \u03c1<jats:sub>0<\/jats:sub>. Chiral symmetry is restored at ~ 6\u20137 \u03c1<jats:sub>0<\/jats:sub>. At low densities the model includes clustering and reproduces the properties of nuclear matter namely binding energy and incompressibility. At high densities (\u03c1&gt;3\u20134.5 \u03c1<jats:sub>0<\/jats:sub>) quark matter is more stable than nuclear matter.
