Algebra Comput."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2001,4]]},"abstract":"<jats:p> This paper presents a study of the semidirectly closed pseudovariety generated by the aperiodic Brandt semigroup B<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>, denoted V*(B<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>). We construct a basis of pseudoidentities for the semidirect powers of the pseudovariety generated by B<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> which leads to the main result, which states that V*(B<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>) is decidable. <\/jats:p><jats:p> Independently, using some suggestions given by J.
