The interest in the study of strong irreducibility stems from commutative ring theory, while the dual concept of strong irreducibility had been used to define Zariski-like topologies on specific lattices of submodules of a given module over an associative ring. Based on our lattice theoretical approach, we give a unifying treatment of strong irreducibility, dualize results on strongly irreducible submodules, examine its behavior under central localization and apply our theory to the frame of hereditary torsion theories. <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1142\/s0219498813500126","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2012,11,28]],"date-time":"2012-11-28T01:16:54Z","timestamp":1354065414000},"page":"1350012","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":4,"title":["ON THE NOTION OF STRONG IRREDUCIBILITY AND ITS DUAL"],"prefix":"10.1142","volume":"12","author":[{"given":"JAWAD","family":"ABUHLAIL","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Box # 5046, KFUPM, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia"}]},{"given":"CHRISTIAN","family":"LOMP","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Center of Mathematics, University of Porto, Portugal"}]}],"member":"219","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2013,5,9]]},"reference":[{"key":"rf1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1080\/00927872.2010.519748"},{"key":"rf2","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.topol.2010.11.021"},{"key":"rf4","first-page":"275","volume":"54","author":"Albu T.","year":"2009","journal-title":"Rev.
