We report U\u2013Pb sensitive high-resolution ion microprobe dating of detrital zircons in two metasedimentary successions exposed at Quebrada de La C\u00e9bila (\n            <jats:italic>c<\/jats:italic>\n            . 28\u00b045'S, 66\u00b025'W): the Ambato and the La C\u00e9bila metamorphic complexes. The Ambato zircons record age peaks corresponding to Pampean (530 \u00b1 10 Ma), Brasiliano (\n            <jats:italic>c<\/jats:italic>\n            . 570 and\n            <jats:italic>c<\/jats:italic>\n            . 640 Ma), Grenville (\n            <jats:italic>c<\/jats:italic>\n            . 950 to\n            <jats:italic>c<\/jats:italic>\n            . 1025 Ma) and minor Neoarchaean ages. Similar peaks are also apparent in the La C\u00e9bila sample but it additionally contains Palaeoproterozoic zircons (\n            <jats:italic>c<\/jats:italic>\n            . 2.1 Ga) corresponding to the age of the Rio de la Plata craton, from which they are considered to have been sourced. Our interpretation is that the protolith of the Ambato complex was deposited prior to juxtaposition with the craton and is older than the Early Ordovician La C\u00e9bila metamorphic complex.
