We map the distribution of plutons and mylonitic deformation along the northern\n            <jats:italic>c.<\/jats:italic>\n            70\u2005km of the El Salado segment and use U\u2013Pb geochronology to establish the slip history of the AFS. Along the eastern branch, mylonitic fabrics associated with the synkinematic\n            <jats:italic>c.<\/jats:italic>\n            134\u2013132\u2005Ma Cerro del Pingo Complex are separated by 34\u201338\u2005km, and mylonites associated with a synkinematic\n            <jats:italic>c.<\/jats:italic>\n            120\u2013119\u2005Ma tonalite are separated by 20.5\u201326\u2005km. We interpret leucocratic intrusions to be separated across the western branch by\n            <jats:italic>c.<\/jats:italic>\n            16\u201320\u2005km, giving a total slip magnitude of\n            <jats:italic>c.<\/jats:italic>\n            54\u2009\u2009\u00b1\u2009\u20096\u2005km across the El Salado segment. Kinematic indicators consistently record sinistral shear, and zircon (U\u2013Th)\/He data suggest dip-slip motion was insignificant. Displacement occurred between\n            <jats:italic>c.<\/jats:italic>\n            133\u2013110\u2005Ma at a slip rate of\n            <jats:italic>c.<\/jats:italic>\n            2.1\u20132.6\u2005km Myr\n            <jats:sup>\u20131<\/jats:sup>\n            .
