Synopsis
The geometries of thrusts in the Arnaboll and Heilam sheets, part of the Moine thust zone of NW Scotland, are described using branch line maps, which are the projections on to a map of the lines where thrusts join, and also cut-off maps, which are the projections of where thrusts cut through the strata. The thrusts are shown to have developed in a WNW propagating piggy-back sequence; structures developed on the lower thrusts cut or fold earlier higher level thrusts. Nowhere do thrusts cut down stratigraphy in the transport direction, and a previous claim that the Arnaboll thrust was out of sequence was based on a mis-correlation of thrusts.
