In the Southern Zone on the mainland directions of magnetisation correlate with late stages of post-Laxfordian uplift and imply that these examples were either contemporaneous with the LM3 metamorphism or with early Torridonian rifting. In the Outer Hebrides the pseudotachylytes yield both mid-Proterozoic and Caledonian directions of magnetisation. The Proterozoic examples were formed late in the post-Laxfordian uplift cycle while the Palaeozoic examples are linked to formation of the Outer Hebrides thrust zone and presumably to the Caledonian thrusting on the mainland.
