The middle part of the formation contains species of the brachiopods\n            <jats:italic>Dedzetina, Sericoidea, Proboscisambon<\/jats:italic>\n            and\n            <jats:italic>Protozyga<\/jats:italic>\n            ? indicative of a deep-water biofacies and suggesting correlation with the Rawtheyan Stage of the Ashgill Series although an Hirnantian age cannot be excluded. At higher levels within the unit\n            <jats:italic>Dysprosorthis<\/jats:italic>\n            occurs with\n            <jats:italic>Eostropheodonta<\/jats:italic>\n            and the trilobite\n            <jats:italic>Mucronaspis,<\/jats:italic>\n            confirming an Hirnantian age for the upper part of the Tirnaskea Formation.
