A TOE is a specialized network device that implements a significant portion of the TCP\/IP protocol in hardware, thereby offloading TCP\/IP processing from software running on a general-purpose CPU. This article examines the reasons behind the interest in TOEs and looks at challenges involved in their implementation and deployment.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/1005062.1005069","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2005,1,26]],"date-time":"2005-01-26T16:33:14Z","timestamp":1106757194000},"page":"58-65","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":28,"title":["TCP Offload to the Rescue"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"2","author":[{"given":"Andy","family":"Currid","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"iReady"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2004,5]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","volume-title":"TCP\/IP Illustrated","volume":"1","author":"Internet Engineering Task Force RFCs (requests for comments)","year":"1994"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_2_1","unstructured":"2\n .
