Also central to the framework is a suite of interactive tools that allow the user to specify a variety of high-level image objectives, either globally across the image, or locally through a painting-style interface. Image objectives are applied independently at each pixel location and generally involve a function of the pixel values (such as \"maximum contrast\") drawn from that same location in the set of source images. Typically, a user applies a series of image objectives iteratively in order to create a finished composite. The power of this framework lies in its generality; we show how it can be used for a wide variety of applications, including \"selective composites\" (for instance, group photos in which everyone looks their best), relighting, extended depth of field, panoramic stitching, clean-plate production, stroboscopic visualization of movement, and time-lapse mosaics.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/1015706.1015718","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2004,10,7]],"date-time":"2004-10-07T13:38:56Z","timestamp":1097156336000},"page":"294-302","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":536,"title":["Interactive digital photomontage"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"23","author":[{"given":"Aseem","family":"Agarwala","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Washington"}]},{"given":"Mira","family":"Dontcheva","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Washington"}]},{"given":"Maneesh","family":"Agrawala","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Microsoft Research"}]},{"given":"Steven","family":"Drucker","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Microsoft Research"}]},{"given":"Alex","family":"Colburn","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Microsoft Research"}]},{"given":"Brian","family":"Curless","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Washington"}]},{"given":"David","family":"Salesin","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Washington"}]},{"given":"Michael","family":"Cohen","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Microsoft Research"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2004,8]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_2_1_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/VISUAL.2003.1250392"},{"key":"e_1_2_2_2_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/34.969114"},{"key":"e_1_2_2_3_1","volume-title":"Picturing Time: The Work of Etienne-Jules Marey","author":"BRAUN M.","year":"1992","unstructured":"BRAUN, M. 1992.
