This control plane has many names; in this article it is the route processor, or RP. The route processor calculates the forwarding table and downloads it to the line cards using a control-plane bus. The line cards perform the actual packet lookup and forwarding. Although individual vendors or models may differ slightly in implementation, the salient points remain the same.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/1036474.1036502","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2005,1,26]],"date-time":"2005-01-26T16:33:14Z","timestamp":1106757194000},"page":"64-69","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["Lack of Priority Queuing Considered Harmful"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"2","author":[{"given":"Vijay","family":"Gill","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"America Online"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2004,11]]},"container-title":["Queue"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/1036474.1036502","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/pdf\/10.1145\/1036474.1036502","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,6,18]],"date-time":"2025-06-18T21:36:48Z","timestamp":1750282608000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/1036474.1036502"}},"subtitle":["We\u2019re in sore need of critical Internet infrastructure protection."],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2004,11]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"8","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2004,11]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1145\/1036474.1036502"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/1036474.1036502","relation":{},"ISSN":["1542-7730","1542-7749"],"issn-type":[{"type":"print","value":"1542-7730"},{"type":"electronic","value":"1542-7749"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2004,11]]},"assertion":[{"value":"2004-11-01","order":2,"name":"published","label":"Published","group":{"name":"publication_history","label":"Publication History"}}]}}
