A conceptual framework in which the relations between the virtual, the physical, and the social domains are modeled is presented. Interfaces that mediate between the domains are discussed along with a complementary software architecture that helps developing hybrid computer games. Finally, sample games that follow the approach of physical and social augmentation are presented.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/1037851.1037870","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2005,8,2]],"date-time":"2005-08-02T08:40:07Z","timestamp":1122972007000},"page":"12-12","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":35,"title":["Augmenting the virtual domain with physical and social elements"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"2","author":[{"given":"Carsten","family":"Magerkurth","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Fraunhofer IPSI"}]},{"given":"Timo","family":"Engelke","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Fraunhofer IPSI"}]},{"given":"Maral","family":"Memisoglu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Fraunhofer IPSI"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2004,10]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_2_1_1","volume-title":"Proceedings of Smart Objects Conference","author":"Beigl M.","year":"2003"},{"key":"e_1_2_2_2_1","volume-title":"Proceedings of Interact","author":"Bjork S.","year":"2001"},{"key":"e_1_2_2_3_1","volume-title":"Workshop on Gaming Applications in Pervasive Computing Environments at Pervasive","author":"Bohn J.","year":"2004"},{"key":"e_1_2_2_4_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/302979.303115"},{"key":"e_1_2_2_5_1","volume-title":"Proceedings of M&C'03","author":"Magerkurth C."},{"key":"e_1_2_2_6_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/506443.506523"},{"key":"e_1_2_2_7_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/641007.641037"},{"key":"e_1_2_2_8_1","volume-title":"Workshop on Gaming Applications in Pervasive Computing Environments at Pervasive","author":"Pape S.","year":"2004"},{"key":"e_1_2_2_9_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1007\/s00779-003-0224-0"},{"key":"e_1_2_2_10_1","volume-title":"Proceedings ofM&C03","author":"Schmidt A.","year":"2003"},{"key":"e_1_2_2_11_1","unstructured":"Shwe H. 1999.
