The EP agent learns new facts and stores them in a data base and can learn new procedures for data manipulation. Both the EP agent and the programs it creates are written as sets of IF-THEN rules (production systems) in RITA: the Rule-directed Interactive Transaction Agent system. The programs produced by the EP agent act as \"personal computer agents\" to perform a variety of tasks for the user. Program creation is a cooperative effort between the user and the EP agent: the user illustrates what he wants done by performing a series of operations on the computer, and the agent watches and asks the user pertinent questions during the demonstration. The resulting program then becomes the user's personal computer agent for performing the given task.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/1045343.1045368","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2007,1,17]],"date-time":"2007-01-17T18:32:02Z","timestamp":1169058722000},"page":"38-38","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Exemplary programming in RITA"],"prefix":"10.1145","author":[{"given":"D.
