Such application scenarios require means for composing and executing complex workflows. Therefore, many efforts have been made towards the development of workflow management systems for Grid computing. In this paper, we propose a taxonomy that characterizes and classifies various approaches for building and executing workflows on Grids. The taxonomy not only highlights the design and engineering similarities and differences of state-of-the-art in Grid workflow systems, but also identifies the areas that need further research.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/1084805.1084814","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2005,11,9]],"date-time":"2005-11-09T22:23:27Z","timestamp":1131575007000},"page":"44-49","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":359,"title":["A taxonomy of scientific workflow systems for grid computing"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"34","author":[{"given":"Jia","family":"Yu","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"The University of Melbourne, Australia"}]},{"given":"Rajkumar","family":"Buyya","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"The University of Melbourne, Australia"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2005,9]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","volume-title":"White Paper","author":"Almond J.","year":"1998"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_2_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1007\/11423287_11"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_3_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1177\/109434200101500401"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_4_1","volume-title":"GridFlow:Workflow Management for Grid Computing.
