In this article we report on a workshop on exploratory search issues organized in conjunction with the University of Maryland Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory's Annual Symposium and Open House in June 2005. This workshop brought together researchers from the fields of Information Seeking (IS), Information Retrieval (IR), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Information Visualization (IV) for a cross-disciplinary exploration of these and other issues. Although originally intended to focus on interfaces to support exploratory search the workshop blossomed into a rich discussion of not only interface issues, but also evaluation, the cognitive processes that underlie information exploration and research methods.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/1113343.1113356","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2007,1,17]],"date-time":"2007-01-17T18:32:02Z","timestamp":1169058722000},"page":"52-56","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":28,"title":["Exploratory search interfaces"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"39","author":[{"given":"Ryen W.","family":"White","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Maryland, College Park, MD"}]},{"given":"Bill","family":"Kules","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Maryland, College Park, MD"}]},{"given":"Ben","family":"Bederson","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Maryland, College Park, MD"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2005,12]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/258549.258563"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_2_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1108\/eb024320"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_3_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/502348.502359"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_4_1","first-page":"20","volume-title":"Proceedings of the Third Annual Workshop on HCI Research in MIS","author":"Kules B.","year":"2004","unstructured":"Kules , B. and Shneiderman , B .
