Firstly, I should like to point out the relevance of PL\/I, as a major programming language, to the topic of extensibility. Secondly, I should like to indicate those parts of PL\/I which have extensional powers. As I shall try to show, these include not only the compile-time facilities of PL\/I, but also certain other features not normally regarded as being related to extensibility.
