As the market and devices mature, the need (and potential) for mobile applications grows. More and more mobile devices are delivered with the Java platform installed, enabling a large base of Java programmers to try their hand at embedded programming. Unfortunately, not all Java mobile devices are created equal, presenting many challenges to the new J2ME (Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition) programmer. Using a sample game application, this article illustrates some of the challenges associated with J2ME and Bluetooth programming.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/1127854.1127868","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2006,5,8]],"date-time":"2006-05-08T16:09:20Z","timestamp":1147104560000},"page":"36-41","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["Java in a Teacup"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"4","author":[{"given":"Stephen","family":"Johnson","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Thales-Raytheon"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2006,4]]},"container-title":["Queue"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/1127854.1127868","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/pdf\/10.1145\/1127854.1127868","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,6,18]],"date-time":"2025-06-18T16:18:53Z","timestamp":1750263533000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/1127854.1127868"}},"subtitle":["Programming Bluetooth-enabled devices using J2ME"],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2006,4]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"3","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2006,4]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1145\/1127854.1127868"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/1127854.1127868","relation":{},"ISSN":["1542-7730","1542-7749"],"issn-type":[{"type":"print","value":"1542-7730"},{"type":"electronic","value":"1542-7749"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2006,4]]},"assertion":[{"value":"2006-04-01","order":2,"name":"published","label":"Published","group":{"name":"publication_history","label":"Publication History"}}]}}
