Realtime systems interact with the physical world, so they have a second correctness criterion: they have to compute the correct result within a bounded amount of time. Simply building functionally correct software is hard enough. When timing is added to the requirements, the cost and complexity of building the software increase enormously.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/1217256.1217268","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2007,4,5]],"date-time":"2007-04-05T19:20:08Z","timestamp":1175800808000},"page":"40-49","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":8,"title":["Realtime Garbage Collection"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"5","author":[{"given":"David F.","family":"Bacon","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"IBM Research"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2007,2]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/367177.367199"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_2_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/604131.604155"},{"volume-title":"Garbage Collection: Algorithms for Automatic Dynamic Memory Management.","year":"1996","author":"Jones R.
