But, however \"thin\" the client hardware, mobile users in the field still have the burden of carrying it. To alleviate this problem, we decided to adopt as our client a piece of hardware that many mobile users already carry with them anyway: the cellphone. This paper presents our experience in researching, implementing, deploying and using a system whereby users, wherever they are, can query and control their personalised computing resources and services by typing short messages on the keypad of their cellphone. Our system has been deployed and in use for over a year and has given us valuable insights on how to design and build a personal information service.\n <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/1321400.1321403","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2007,11,30]],"date-time":"2007-11-30T14:24:58Z","timestamp":1196432698000},"page":"46-53","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":10,"title":["The thinnest of clients"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"2","author":[{"given":"Frank","family":"Stajano","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Olivetti and Oracle Research Laboratory, Cambridge, UK and University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory, New Museums Site, Cambridge, UK"}]},{"given":"Alan","family":"Jones","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory, New Museums Site, Cambridge, UK"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[1998,10]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","unstructured":"Tristan Richardson \"Teleporting in an X Window System environment\" IEEE Pers.
