Akeley was part of the founding Silicon Graphics team in 1982 and worked there for almost 20 years, during which he led the development of several high-end graphics systems, including GTX, VGX, and RealityEngine. He\u2019s also known for his pioneering work on OpenGL, the industry-standard programming interface for high-performance graphics hardware. Akeley is now a principal researcher at Microsoft Research Silicon Valley, where he works on cutting-edge projects in graphics system architecture, high-performance computing, and display design.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/1365490.1365496","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2008,4,29]],"date-time":"2008-04-29T13:01:12Z","timestamp":1209474072000},"page":"11-17","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["A Conversation with Kurt Akeley and Pat Hanrahan"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"6","author":[{"given":"John","family":"Stanik","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"ACM Queue"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2008,3]]},"container-title":["Queue"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/1365490.1365496","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/pdf\/10.1145\/1365490.1365496","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,6,18]],"date-time":"2025-06-18T13:57:39Z","timestamp":1750255059000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/1365490.1365496"}},"subtitle":["Graphics veterans debate the evolution of the GPU."],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2008,3]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"2","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2008,3]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1145\/1365490.1365496"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/1365490.1365496","relation":{},"ISSN":["1542-7730","1542-7749"],"issn-type":[{"type":"print","value":"1542-7730"},{"type":"electronic","value":"1542-7749"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2008,3]]},"assertion":[{"value":"2008-03-01","order":2,"name":"published","label":"Published","group":{"name":"publication_history","label":"Publication History"}}]}}
