We elaborate this account through a framework for aesthetic experience built around three themes: (1) a holistic approach wherein the person with feelings, emotions, and thoughts is the focus of design; (2) a constructivist stance in which self is seen as continuously engaged and constituted in making sense of experience; and (3) a dialogical ontology in which self, others, and technology are constructed as multiple centers of value. We use this framework to critically reflect on research into the aesthetics of interaction and to suggest sensibilities for designing aesthetic interaction. Finally, a digital jewelery case study is described to demonstrate a design approach that is open to the perspectives presented in the framework and to consider how the framework and sensibilities are reflected in engagement with participants and approach to design.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/1460355.1460360","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2008,12,10]],"date-time":"2008-12-10T15:32:31Z","timestamp":1228923151000},"page":"1-21","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":164,"title":["Aesthetics and experience-centered design"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"15","author":[{"given":"Peter","family":"Wright","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield, UK"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Jayne","family":"Wallace","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Newcastle, Newcastle, UK"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"John","family":"McCarthy","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University College Cork, Cork, Ireland"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2008,12,11]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","unstructured":"Bannon L. and B\u00f8dker S. 1991.
