The controlled sequential bifurcation screening procedures CSB and CSB-X use a sequence of tests to classify factors as important or unimportant, while controlling Type I error and power. These procedures require analysts to identify the directions of the effects prior to experimentation, which can be problematic. We propose hybrid two-phase approaches, FFCSB and FFCSBX, as alternatives. Phase 1 uses an efficient fractional factorial to estimate factor effect directions; phase 2 uses CSB or CSB-X. Empirical investigations show these outperform CSB(X) in efficiency and effectiveness for many situations of practical interest.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/1502787.1502790","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2009,4,6]],"date-time":"2009-04-06T16:34:22Z","timestamp":1239035662000},"page":"1-24","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":29,"title":["Two-phase screening procedure for simulation experiments"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"19","author":[{"given":"Susan M.","family":"Sanchez","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA"}]},{"given":"Hong","family":"Wan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN"}]},{"given":"Thomas W.","family":"Lucas","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2009,3,23]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/S0377-2217(96)00156-7"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_2_1","unstructured":"Beyer W.
