Although some work has been done by AAC researchers and mainstream discourse researchers, there is limited evidence that can be used in AAC device prediction systems that is related to workplace and, more specifically, task-oriented discourse. The limitations in our understanding of workers' conversational needs warrant investigation into their discourse and the associated physical, temporal, and social environment factors. This study will collect and critically analyze spoken workplace conversation from 20 workers using discourse analysis and corpus linguistic techniques.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/1531930.1531934","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2009,4,28]],"date-time":"2009-04-28T14:58:07Z","timestamp":1240930687000},"page":"26-30","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["Critically analyzing workplace discourse to inform AAC device design"],"prefix":"10.1145","author":[{"given":"Carrie","family":"Bruce","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Georgia Institute of Technology"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2009,1]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/129875.129878"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_2_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1080\/07434619812331278326"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_3_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1080\/07434619912331278605"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_4_1","first-page":"186","article-title":"Minspeak: A semantic compaction system that makes self expression easier for communicatively disabled individuals","volume":"7","author":"Barrow H.","year":"1982","journal-title":"Byte"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_5_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1044\/1092-4388(2003\/063)"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_6_1","unstructured":"Beukelman D.
