The material is comprehensive and maintains a well-balanced approach to this rapidly developing field. Written to accommodate a wide variety of backgrounds, the text assumes minimal programming experience, and is formatted to suite any type of curriculum. Chapter 1 introduces the concept of \"internal representation,\" setting the foundation for the following chapters. Other important topics include reasoning under uncertainty, robot plans, language understanding, and learning. Throughout the book the authors have presented the history of the field as well as intellectual links to related disciplines.
