Formal methods are mathematical techniques for the precise description of systems properties and behaviour, and have an important role to play in the future provision of interoperable systems and data. This paper describes that role, and examines the implications for present-day training and education.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/1595453.1595463","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2009,8,24]],"date-time":"2009-08-24T14:08:31Z","timestamp":1251122911000},"page":"60-64","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["Formal methods for future interoperability"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"41","author":[{"given":"Jim","family":"Davies","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Oxford University Computing Laboratory, Oxford, UK"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Jeremy","family":"Gibbons","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Oxford University Computing Laboratory, Oxford, UK"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2009,6,25]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","volume-title":"Graduate Software Engineering Reference Curriculum","author":"Applied Systems Thinking Institute","year":"2009","unstructured":"Applied Systems Thinking Institute .
