These new technologies promise to make applications more portable and increase the opportunity for more flexibility and efficiency in both on-premises and outsourced support infrastructures. However, virtualization can break long-standing linkages between applications and their supporting physical devices. Before data-center managers can take advantage of these new opportunities, they must have a better understanding of service infrastructure requirements and their linkages to applications.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/1831327.1836149","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2020,9,3]],"date-time":"2020-09-03T03:32:57Z","timestamp":1599103977000},"page":"20-28","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Moving to the Edge: An ACM CTO Roundtable on Network Virtualization"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"8","author":[{"given":"Mache","family":"Creeger","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"ACM"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2010,7]]},"container-title":["Queue"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/1831327.1836149","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/pdf\/10.1145\/1831327.1836149","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,6,18]],"date-time":"2025-06-18T11:22:35Z","timestamp":1750245755000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/1831327.1836149"}},"subtitle":["How will virtualization technologies affect network service architectures?"],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2010,7]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"7","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2010,7]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1145\/1831327.1836149"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/1831327.1836149","relation":{},"ISSN":["1542-7730","1542-7749"],"issn-type":[{"type":"print","value":"1542-7730"},{"type":"electronic","value":"1542-7749"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2010,7]]},"assertion":[{"value":"2010-07-01","order":2,"name":"published","label":"Published","group":{"name":"publication_history","label":"Publication History"}}]}}
