Achieving alignment across these elements can be challenging. Collaborative Technologies inherently require the participants to work in collaboration and globally distributed settings can place strain on these arrangements. An added complication comes from the need to work not only across boundaries of time and place but also across cultures. This paper reports the findings from a study of a global virtual collaboration between three universities in New Zealand, Sweden and USA. It discusses the complex and multi-layered concept of 'culture' and presents a means of mapping \"cultural fit\" across a global virtual team context.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/1835428.1835444","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2012,10,15]],"date-time":"2012-10-15T19:22:23Z","timestamp":1350328943000},"page":"58-65","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":6,"title":["Exploring the notion of 'cultural fit' in global virtual collaborations"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"1","author":[{"given":"Tony","family":"Clear","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"AUT University, New Zealand"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2011,9]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.2307\/2392767"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_2_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.5555\/1733663.1733684"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_3_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/1352135.1352159"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_4_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/1383602.1383606"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_5_1","first-page":"473","volume":"1","author":"Clear T.","year":"2008","journal-title":"Auckland"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_6_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/ICGSE.2009.43"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_7_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1287\/orsc.5.2.121"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_8_1","volume-title":"Sociology Press","author":"Glaser B.","year":"1967"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_9_1","volume-title":"Washington","author":"Guzdial M.","year":"2002"},{"issue":"2","key":"e_1_2_1_10_1","first-page":"217","volume":"22","author":"Hyde","year":"2000","journal-title":"Science Friction: Cervical Cancer and the Contesting of Medical Beliefs.
